In a world where grim gravity keeps everyone in her grip, the young Icarus searches for colour.
Despite everyone around her discouraging her, she strives for the impossible.
How do you remain hopeful in hopelessness?
Icarus – colours of the sky is based on a classic myth and thus harks back to the origins of opera during the Renaissance.
In an attempt to revive the theatre of the ancient Greeks, mythological tales were brought back to life.
In this retelling of the story of Icarus – the child that flew too close to the sun and plummeted into the ocean – the emphasis lies not on the title character’s hubris.
Instead, this opera poses questions about Icarus’ hope for a new reality.
What is it like to hope for the unthinkable? And what value lies in such hope?
