Voiced Void

“Voiced Void” is a piece for 3 performers walking around with speakers, recorded voice and percussion instruments. The spoken text is conceived as an inner monologue that repeats but each time in different forms. While the voice over unfolds the performers interact with the resonating instruments, triggering vibrations and movements. The cyclical recurrence of the spoken text mimics the chaos in our head, when thoughts prompt us to act, but something still keep us in our place. The noise of thoughts can create stasis, but their repeating occurrence and intensity start to trigger a shift and a transformation. The words dissolve at the end, revealing space between the words and letters. Thus, the performance aims to capture the friction between both movement and stasis that can coexist but occasionally collide. It displays the paralysing effects of overthinking, when action seems to be foreclosed, and yet also the unforeseen (and uncontrollable) resistance that emerges from voicing the seemingly void noises in our heads. The piece prompts the audience to balance in the noise and to listen to the small traces of transformation that starts to appear between the expression and the movement.
